Assorted Sorbets with Berries and Tropical Fruit

I love David Chang, Lucky Peach AND Chinese food. This menu, loosely adapted from Lucky Peach recipes, is absolutely delicious — each recipe and the entire menu are even better than the sum of their yummy parts — and each recipe is surprisingly simple to make. The menu works brilliantly but each recipe on its own will be a welcome addition to your repertoire (at least they all were to mine).

We’ll serve and eat the meal as a buffet, but you can easily serve the salad and/or the pancake as a first course.

Made with cooling, crunchy cucumbers, this salad is particularly appealing in summer though the savory-sour blast of black vinegar and heat of the chilies make it appropriate in the cool months as well. And it’s delicious alongside the scallion pancake, a divine basic staple even better when enhanced with any of a wide variety of dipping sauces (homemade or store-bought). The pancake dough is also a jumping off point for several more elaborate recipes that use it to ensconce other foods.

The soy-and-honey-lacquered chicken is a to-die-for, no-fuss recipe. Super easy and delicious enough to eat every day of the week. Fried Rice — this version with ground pork and lots of fresh herbs — and Miso Eggplant are perfect alongside.

In summer, I like to finish this meal with a super simple, super refreshing dessert. An assortment of fruit sorbets garnished with berries and tropical fruits fits the bill perfectly.
